The interview: Tell us how you got interested in racing: My Grandpa Bush raced when he was younger so it was kind of in my blood. So when I was younger my parents always took me to the race tracks. I believe I attended my first motorsports events before I was 3 months old. As I was growing up I got to watch the likes of Jeff Gordon, Steve Kinser, and Leon Thickston. In 1995 my Uncle Don bought an Indiana Super Stock and my dad and I would go with him to the track to help him work on the car. After that in 1996 my dad and I decided to buy the car off of my Uncle. After that the rest is history. I have been racing ever since.
Tell us about your family: My family is very special to me. They have been very supportive in my racing career. First is my new wife Amy. We were married on March the 8th of 2008. So the newly wed life is going great. She is very supportive of my racing both emotionally and financially. Even though she likes to give me a hard time every time I spend “her” money.
My brother, Dustin and my sister, Leafa have also been major supporters
in my racing career. Leafa and her husband are always willing to lend
me a helping hand in whatever way they can. Dustin on the other hand
may be my biggest help. Not only did he become a gofer for parts as
soon as he turned 18, he was also pulling motors out of cars when
he was 12 years old. He is always willing to help out in any way he
can and is not afraid to get dirty doing it.
My Career Highlights are:
It is a hard choice to pick which race stands out the most to me. It would be easy to pick my first win at Sullivan Speedway when my Uncle finished 2nd to me. But I will go with my first feature victory at the Paragon Speedway. That night was a rough night as in the heat race I got together with another competitor and spun through the infield almost into the pond. After returning to the pits we almost missed the B-main because of how long it took to repair the front end of the car. After starting last in the B-main I was able to work to second place before the time limit made the race complete. So I started the feature in last place. By half way I was around eighth position, I was able to take the lead with about 5 laps to go. After that I developed a major oil leak and with a lap to go the oil light came on but I still finished. When I got back to the garage I was only able to drain less then a quart of oil out of the engine. We all know it takes more than one person to be successful in racing, who do you feel contributes to your career success? Once again I feel that my family has been the most influential part of my racing career. Both by pushing me and supporting me in anything that I do. What tracks do you race at? I currently am planning on running for points at the Bloomington Speedway and the Paragon Speedway List your sponsors: My sponsors include Motor Service (CarQuest) of Bloomington, IN, The Tire Barn of Bloomington, IN. Complete Masonry Supplies of Bloomington, IN. Circle Track Supply of Oolitic, IN. and TSN Graphics of Bloomington, IN. Any special events or news for the upcoming season you would like to share with your fans? No Special Events just racing!! Do you have a website so fans can keep up on your progress? If so, what is the url? www.teamsquirrelnut.com - Under Construction Closing thoughts? I would just like to thank everyone in that has helped me out in my career and everyone who is helping me this year. The great thing about racing is that you gain so many friends. I love the fact that I get along with almost anyone at the track. I know if I go to the track anyone and everyone would do anything to help each other out no matter who they are.
Thanks for sharing! Good luck from Indiana Dirt Scoops! |
